Roy L. Merrill Jr. has practiced criminal law in Dallas since 1969. He has been board certified in criminal law since 1975, which was the inception of the board certification program in Texas. Prior to coming to Dallas, Roy Merrill was a felony prosecutor with the Lubbock County District Attorney’s Office.

As an aggressive board certified criminal defense trial lawyer, Roy Merrill has successfully defended physicians and other professionals as well as citizens accused of different violations of the Texas Penal Code, including drug cases, white collar crimes, and crimes such as murder, felony assaults, robbery and sexual assaults in both state and federal court systems.

Roy L. Merrill Jr. handles appeals of criminal convictions and post-conviction matters such as habeas corpus.

Roy L. Merrill Jr. represented James Hubert Hallford, M.D., intervenor in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case of Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), and at the same time successfully defended Dr. Hallford in the State District Court where Dr. Hallford was charged with two felony criminal abortion cases.

Mr. Merrill is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Dallas Criminal Bar Association. He has the highest rating (AV) in Martindale-Hubble.

My criminal law practice was established 1971 in Dallas, representing people charged with all types of crimes in state and federal courts in Texas and in other states, as well as in the federal courts. I focus on criminal law defense in State and Federal Courts. I represent people in jury trials and appeals.
